The Arrival: Mini Film Festivals Light Up The Screen

Films abound this weekend with both the The Martha’s Vineyard Film Society and Circuit Arts hosting mini festivals.

At the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, women take center stage in the fifth annual Women In Film Festival, which runs from Oct. 13 to 15.

There will be six films showing during the three days, all featuring female characters who break the mold, beginning with documentary called Joan Baez: I Am a Noise, on Friday at 4 p.m. The screening will be followed by a discussion with co-directors Miri Navasky and Maeve O’Boyle.

The festival concludes on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with The Arrival, set in a Manhattan bar. Director Alyssa Rallo Bennett will be on hand for questions after the film.

At Circuit Arts, the staff has picked some of their favorite independent movies to showcase in its Fall Favorites festival, which includes three films: Past Lives, Fairyland and A Thousand and One.

Past Lives screened Thursday at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury, with Fairyland playing Friday at 7 p.m. and A Thousand and One playing Saturday at 7 p.m.
